mysticwolf75 It's so good to finally hear this! The 2 Suspended Memories albums are among my favorites, and I often wish they had done more together.

Dave Roberts The era of Suspended Memories is a special one. At the time, I was in high school and discovered Steve’s music by accident. I was working at Camelot Music 1993ish, & basically spent most of my paychecks on music. I had purchased an ambient compilation called Mystic Dreams which was ok.

While at Camelot I was going through the “New Age” section (hate that label), and discovered a cool album cover, Suspended Memories, Forgotten Gods. From there on I’ve had a voracious appetites for this g

February's Exclusive release!

Suspended Memories - Born from life on the edge...
This Echoes Living room concert from 1992 documents the evolving birth of the Suspended Memories with the making of our premier release Forgotten Gods. After having met Jorge Reyes and Suso Saiz at an ambient-new music festival in 1991 (while we were performing on the island of Lanzarote in the lava tube theater, Jameos Del Aqua) we became fast friends and kindred spirits. For the event, I flew into Madrid and then to the Island. The Gulf War had started that week and times were dramatic. There was full military protection as the all throughout the airport. Since some of the artists were unable to fly in because of the war alert, the promoter asked us to perform together to fill a spot. The rest is history as they say...

As the group Suspended Memories, we played solo and group concerts in Europe and Mexico. A reputation was quickly building for the unique sound we were forging. By the time we had arranged to record our first release for Hearts of Space Records, we were on fire with our telepathic way of playing in the moment and creating our musical forms that would become the map of our albums.

For our first release, Suspended Memories - Forgotten Gods, we gathered at my house in Tucson for about 10 days. I had just moved in and the Timeroom was yet to be built, so the studio was temporarily set up in the master bedroom. John Diliberto of the Echos radio show planned to fly in on the weekend. After a few days of recording, we pulled the entire studio setup out and moved it down the hallway into the living room. The word was put out to some close friends who came in from California and New Mexico. Soon we had about 20 people there to witness the moment. The next morning, after the concert and the celebration party had wound down, we pulled the system down and moved it back into the studio. The next day, while we were still riding the energy wave of it all, we finished recording the pieces and then the final mixes for the album. This would be the pace we would keep as a group for another few years, where we would meet up somewhere on the planet when the magical time aligned.

The next release, Earth Island, was recorded over a year later in Madrid, Spain and old stone farm house studio in Ossnabruk Germany. We had just played in Spain and at the large German festival Klang Art, where Kraftwerk played the night before. I miss these times but the energy of it still lives on here in the living room concert recordings!
